I want to share with you all one of my deepest passions - gongs! I have always dreamt of having a gong and now I seem to have 4.
I never seemed to have found the instrument that really spoke to me until I heard the gong. It was then I thought, what is this magical instrument of sound with so many incredible tones in it? I needed to know more.

For me, I find the gong acts as a time portal every time I hear or play it; it takes me on journeys, causes me to deeply relax and destress, offers deep meditation, helps me to sleep better, dream more, makes me feel more connected to my body and every layer of me, raising my vibration, and brings about such a sense of peace and joy.
I have been very blessed to have found a wonderful and inspiring gong master, Sheila Whittaker, alongside an amazing cohort of like-minded souls with whom I have embarked on my gong practitioner’s training. This training has given me the knowledge to be able to use the gongs as a powerful healing tool with you. By weaving them into our yoga classes, as well as holding 1-to-1 sessions and our now monthly sound baths.
So I thought I’d share with you all about the gong and the amazing effects it can have on us.
How gongs were invented
The gong is one of the oldest and most versatile musical instruments, with a rich history that spans thousands of years. The earliest known gongs date back to around 6th century BCE in China, where they were used in religious ceremonies, rituals and performances.
Gongs have been used in various cultures around the world for a wide range of purposes, including music, meditation, healing and spiritual practices. Its unique and powerful sound has made it a beloved and revered instrument for both musical and spiritual purposes.
What makes the gong sound so amazing
Gongs can be made from various metals, each producing different tones and qualities of sound. Bronze gongs are known for their rich, deep and resonant tones, making them ideal for meditation, relaxation and healing purposes.
Brass gongs are often used in orchestral and musical settings, as well as in ceremonial and ritual contexts. They typically produce bright, shimmering tones with a warm and mellow timbre.
The use of nickel silver in gongs allows for a wide range of sonic possibilities and can contribute to the overall aesthetic and tonal qualities of the instrument. While iron gongs tend to produce sharper, more metallic tones and are often used in percussive settings.
Steel gongs produce bright, clear tones with a sharp attack and long sustain. They are often used in avant-garde and contemporary music compositions.

The effects of gong sound baths on the body and mind
Gongs are powerful instruments that have a profound impact on various aspects of our being - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Rebalance energy
The vibrations and frequencies produced by the gong can reach beyond the physical plain and affect the subtle energy bodies that surround us, helping to rebalance and bring harmony to our entire being.
It can assist in removing blockages and stagnant energy, preventing illness from manifesting in the physical body.
Reduce pain
The deep vibrations and frequencies can help to relax tense muscles, decrease inflammation and promote a sense of wellbeing, which can all contribute to reducing pain levels.
Additionally, the meditative and calming nature of gong baths can help distract us from pain and help to alleviate symptoms.
Heal emotions
Gong sounds have a clearing effect on our emotional body, helping to release and shift old patterns, emotional issues and trauma. This can create space for healing, growth and a greater sense of emotional wellbeing.
Tap into creativity
The sounds of the gong can help shift our focus from the logical left brain to the creative right brain, allowing us to tap into our intuition, creativity and inner guidance. This can lead to mental clarity, inspiration and a deeper connection to our true selves.
Destress and rejuvenate
Gong baths often induce a deep state of relaxation and meditation, promoting a sense of peace, stillness and rejuvenation.
Many people feel destressed, re-energised and mentally refreshed after a gong bath session.

Every gong bath experience is unique and individual, depending on where a person is on their life journey. Some may have profound healing experiences, spiritual insights or past-life visions, while others may simply feel a deep sense of relaxation or fall into a restorative sleep.
I want to thank you, our wonderful community who have allowed me to share the gongs with you as we explore the power of these amazing instruments.
