My yoga retreat in the Scottish Highlands

I am very excited to be heading back to Cromarty for this annual retreat!

Our destination is Cromarty in the Highlands of Scotland. Cromarty is a very special place indeed with the most welcoming community. It's a wonderful place to recharge, restore and to feel connected again with everything. Giving yourself that time to press the reset button for mind, body and spirit.

Here we will be immersed in nature and the practice of yoga. We will dive deeper into the teachings of yoga as we explore asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy and sound. It will be a special time for inspiration, connection, play and a celebration of life. An invitation to sink deeper into your body, breath and feeling fully. With plenty of time to explore the beautiful area too.

Inspired by the joy of living close to nature, this retreat is an opportunity to connect with your true nature through the teachings of yoga and the beauty of mother nature - with the mountains and the sea for inspiration. There will also be great hiking and mindfulness walks.

What each day will look like

We will welcome the sunrise each morning with meditation and yoga, moving and flowing together, a place for tears, laughter, healing and release.

This will be followed by breakfast. There will be plenty of free time during the day, to explore the beautiful area or to simply take some quiet time for you to explore your inner self.

In the evenings we will have soothing sunset restorative yoga and meditation practices to leave you feeling nurtured and replenished. Dinner and evening entertainment will follow.

Expect good yoga, good cheer, good food and drink, fresh air and gentle walking and new friends.

I’ll share a more detailed schedule closer to the time and also your guide to the local area.

More about where we're going

The retreat is held at The Old Brewery in Cromarty. A brewery from 1776 until the end of the 19th century, it was renovated by the Cromarty Arts Trust and is now a vibrant arts centre with accommodation.

Cromarty is poised on the tip of the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth, about 28 miles above Inverness. It’s about a 40-minute drive from Inverness airport and railway station. There is a regular bus service to and from Inverness.

The Old Brewery  is situated right at the edge of the seashore on the fringes of Cromarty. There are plenty of scenic walks, and there's a little passenger ferry that you can take across the bay.

Within easy walking distance you will find:

  • award-winning museums and galleries

  • restaurant, cafes and shops

  • pubs serving locally brewed ale

  • harbour and sandy beaches from where you can spot bottlenose dolphins

  • woodland and coastal walks

  • 18th-century architecture and buildings of historical significance

There will be the opportunity to join extra trips and activities such as:

  • boat trips to see the dolphins with Ecoventures

  • guided hikes

  • seabird and wildlife expeditions

  • day trips to Inverness and Loch Ness

Testimonials

Some feedback from yogis who joined last year's retreat:

My heart is full again. Thank you so much for this beautiful retreat, it was everything I expected and more. What a wonderful place to recharge and restore. I feel connected again, with everything. Connected with nature, people and myself. My soul is happy again. My body thanks you for the yoga and meditation.
My mind is grateful for the breathing space. My soul is grateful for sharing the energy of you, the group and the beautiful nature surrounding Cromarty. I feel like me again and I cannot thank you enough for helping me make that happen.

Emma

Thank you for providing me with this wonderful oppurtunity to join you on your amazing yoga classes and retreat. It has been truly a very moving experience. I hadn't realised until now, how disconnected I had become with my body and soul. I have loved every moment of this week. The people I have met are all very special and are lucky to have you as a yoga teacher and a friend.
I will try to keep up the good work you have done to me. We shall definitely be seeing more of each other in the future.

Sarah

Thank you so much for such a wonderful retreat. I certainly feel nurtured and very much connected to nature in this beautiful part of the world. I have never been on a yoga retreat and I am so pleased that I was encouraged to come along. It really has been a week when I have been able to press the reset button and give my mind, body and spirit that boost of energy that it needed, and a deep connection to nature and you and the lovely group around us.
